The regulations for escorting abnormal load vehicles are included in the Minister of Infrastructure Regulation of 26.04.2004, according to which:

 

The terms  used in regulation means:

 

1) Oversize transport vehicle is a vehicle or a combination of vehicles whose maximum axle load, with or without the cargo, exceed the permissible values for a given road type in the laws concerning public roads, or whose dimensions or actual mass with or without the cargo exceed the permissible values.

 

2) Pilot is a person responsible for ensuring road traffic security and minimizing the obstacles in road traffic during the transit.

 

3) Escorting comprises a set of activities performed on the road by the pilot using the escort vehicle, aimed at ensuring road traffic security during the transit.

 

4) Escorting vehicle is an appropriately equipped and marked motor vehicle used by the pilot in order to escort the transit of a vehicle or combination of vehicles.

 

Oversized transport rules:

 

1) An oversized transport vehicle that exceeds at least one of the following values:

1) vehicle lenght: 23 m

2) width: 3,20 m

3) height: 4,50 m

4) total mass: 60 t

should be escorted by one escorting vehicle.

 

2) An oversized transport vehicle that exceeds at least one of the following values:

1) vehicle lenght: 30 m

2) width: 3,60 m

3) wheight: 4,70 m

should be escorted by two escorting vehicles, at the front and at the rear of the vehicle.

3) Oversized transport vehicles in a convoy should be escorted by two escorting vehicles, at the front and at the rear of the convoy.
